With an Automated Test Lane (ATL), it is now possible in the UK for just one person to test a car. Now that these one-person testing tracks are in the UK, MOT test centers can apply for one-person unassisted test status, which will make MOT tests more profitable. By putting in an ATL bay, the former helper can keep working on repairs instead of helping with the MOT test. A standard 2-person MOT Bay takes about an hour to finish a MOT. With the new ATL method, a test can be done by one person in 40 minutes.
Pre-MOT work can also be done in a Class 4 or Class 7 ATL MOT lane. This is because the length of time between maintenance checks on newer cars has become shorter in recent years.
MOT centers that want to do "one-person tests" with MOT must now go fully automatic. This would mean getting a computerized brake tester with weighing scales for their MOT equipment. Traditional MOT test centers with older technology are still open, and new sites may still be approved for this type of bay.
Most ATL bays have a motorized headlight beam setter with a turning column that is approved by the UK MOT. The brake tester is a computer-based device that usually runs on Windows. The brake tester can be linked to a sideslip tester, a shock absorber tester, and a headlight beam setter. The results are worked out and then saved. The Full test process follows the rules set by VOSA. The tester for the brakes will be able to print out a full report.
The suspension tester will be part of the Mot Class 7 Farnham or brake tester, and it will give a good idea of the state of the shock absorbers and the suspension as a whole. The test will look at how stiff the tires are and let you know if the pressure is too high or too low. The brake tester shows a computerized result on its screen and includes it in the report that can be printed out.
The strong Smoke Head is easy to use, well balanced, waterproof, and takes accurate measurements down to at least -15 °C. It has a short warm-up time and is easy to handle.
An ATL test lane can be set up with a pit lane, a 4-post lift, a Scissor Lift with front wheel play monitors, or both. The wheels can't be checked for play with a 2-Post Lift, so it can't be used.
